About Us

Our Story
Daily Blade Recon is the primary intelligence hub for knife history and industry news. Founded by Kevin Bentley (known as The Knife Doctor), the site is built on a foundation of discipline, family, and over fifty years of hands-on experience with the blade.
The Man Behind the Recon
Kevin has been carrying a pocket knife since he was seven years old. Beyond the workshop, he is a dedicated family man—married for 37 years with two grown sons and five grandchildren.
His perspective on gear was forged during six years as a United States Marine and combat veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1988–1994). His service was defined by two major Mediterranean deployments aboard the USS Saipan (LHA-2) and the USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41).
Combat & Operational History
1990: Operation Sharp Edge (USS Saipan) This deployment was defined by one of the most demanding operations in Marine Corps history. While the mission began with ports in Toulon, France and Rota, Spain, the focus shifted in May 1990 when the USS Saipan was diverted to the coast of Monrovia, Liberia.
-
Mamba Station: Kevin spent 144 consecutive days at sea on "Mamba Station" during Operation Sharp Edge.
-
The Mission: As the country descended into civil war, the 22nd MEU executed a high-stakes Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO), rescuing over 1,600 civilians from the carnage in Monrovia.
1991–1992: The Black Sea Milestone (USS Whidbey Island) Serving on the USS Whidbey Island, Kevin was part of a historic post-Cold War deployment.
-
The Record: The Whidbey Island became the first U.S. amphibious ship to enter the Black Sea in 70 years.
-
Strategic Ports: Kevin was on the ground for historic visits to Samsun, Turkey (the first U.S. Navy visit in 70 years); Constanța, Romania; and Burgas, Bulgaria (the first U.S. Navy ship ever to visit the port).
